Mahale Mountains National Park

This park is home to thousands of chimpanzees, baboons, colobus and monkeys. Studies conducted by a group of Japanese scientists also take place here. You will find elephants, leopards and buffaloes as well. The safaris are done exclusively on foot in a superb backdrop of mountains overhanging Lake Tanganyika.

Best time: whole year but avoid the rainy seasons of April May and November.

How to get there: from Arusha, a 2-hour drive, from Moshi a 40 minute drive.

To do: on the way up, an extra day between 4000 and 5000 meters will help you avoid altitude sickness before the final ascent. On the Marangu route, from Horombo, a day trip to Zebra Rock.

Do not miss: your “ climbing certificate ”. A dish of grilled meat and bananas and local beer “ mbege” or “kilimanjaro” which you will enjoy with the team.
